Starting in Reception

All prospective parents, whether with children just starting school or changing schools, must apply to South Gloucestershire Council (the Local Authority). This can be done on-line at www.southglos.gov.uk - School/college admissions

.

Those without internet access can obtain an application form from the School Office, which must be returned to the “Student Access and Support Team” at the following address:

.

South Gloucestershire Council
Department for Children and Young People
PO Box 2082
Council Offices
Castle Street
Thornbury
South Gloucestershire
BS35 9BQ

.

Their telephone number is 01454 868008.

.

During the Autumn Term (Sep-Dec), for families interested in applying to Horton for their pre-school aged child to start primary school in September next year, we invite parents to contact the school office to arrange a visit.

.

For new Reception children who have accepted a place with us to start in September, we contact families in May and organise for parents and pre-school pupils to visit the school and take part in induction and transition events in the final term, to get ready to start school after the summer.

.

Further information on the application and allocation process can be found here:

Reception induction

As we are such a small school, we are very flexible in our induction for Reception children. We anticipate that they will begin by attending just morning sessions for the first two or three days. We understand though that parents know their child best and can help decide how quickly they will be able to cope with full days at school. We are happy to help by tailoring the induction period to each individual child.
