Despite being a small school with 68 pupils on role, at Horton CE VA Primary School the children are given ample opportunities to excel in PE and sport. Horton belongs to The Cotswold Small School Cluster, which means we attend many out of school events and festivals in which other small schools take part in, for example an ongoing football league. We are also part of the Wotton and District Sports Group, through which we are invited to many competitions, including the athletics track and field events in the summer always proving popular with the junior children.
Mark Lodge, our highly qualified sports coach, supports the delivery of PE weekly to each year group at the village hall. Mr Lodge also helps organise fantastic events, such as cross country which takes advantage of our privileged location on the Cotswold Way.
Alongside all of the above opportunities, years 1 – 4 go swimming at Yate Leisure Centre weekly and once a year take part in a big sponsored swim to raise money to pay for coaches to run sports clubs and new equipment. As a school, we aim to encourage as many children as possible to engage in a broad range of physical activities and support pupils to lead healthy and active lifestyles.
Football at KLB
On Wednesday 8th November, the Y5/6 children and 3 Y4 children took part in a football tournament at KLB.
The red team won two of their matches so well done to them. The blue team battled hard despite a number of injuries and played really well as a team.
